DISTRICT 9 COUNCIL MEMBER

Delivering for Denver & Ready to Do More

Since taking office, Darrell has boldly addressed the challenges Denver families face:

expanding access to accessory dwelling units, so that homeowners can create additional housing options for family members and maximizing their home’s potential.

passing protections that require landlords to relocate residents when their home is declared unsafe.

strengthening the oversight of Denver’s Fair Elections Fund, so that taxpayer dollars are not misused during election campaigns.

banning flavored tobacco products that target young people.

creating a moratorium on new data center construction until Denver can develop safeguards for its water, energy, and neighborhoods.

Meet Darrell

Darrell understands the hardships Denver families face because those struggles have been part of his childhood. Darrell grew up as the youngest of seven children in public housing in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. His mother raised their family on her own, working in a nursing home during the day and attending school at night. He watched her stretch every dollar, making the same decisions families across Denver are making every day: choosing which bills to pay, and calculating what groceries they could afford.

From his mom, Darrell learned perseverance and steadfastness, and how to hold onto hope, so that he could reach his full potential and have the future his mom knew he deserved.

His mother’s example compels Darrell to fight for safe streets and affordable homes, healthy neighborhoods, greater opportunity for all citizens, and a city government that recognizes the immediacy of getting things done. He knows that public service is not simply about passing policy; it is about making sure families can feel the difference in their everyday lives.

“It is my honor to serve you as your Denver City Council Member. I will always focus on making progress on the biggest issues impacting you and your families. I will continue to work to earn and maintain your support.”
